“Always keep social networking pages professional, up-to-date, and unique to find success in social media.”

Social networking is bad for business if you do not use the right methods for marketing a brand, business or product. Social media is a powerful tool for promotion and networking and it must be treated with care in order to remain effective.

So, why is social networking bad for business? Here are the main reasons your business may be experiencing a lack of fans or high rate of complaints:

  1. Stop sending so many messages. This is the main reason of why social networking can be bad for business. When a business constantly sends promotional messages or updates to the members of a group, the fans will be receiving notification emails. Nobody appreciates SPAM emails or messages, treat your updates with care and only send notifications about really important information.
  2. Never get controversial or political. Unless you are promoting a specific Republican t-shirt or a Pro-Life calendar, always keep social media profiles completely free of controversial or political messages. You want to accept everyone into your fan base, not just one group of people with specific ideals.
  3. Keep it professional. One advertiser asked “why is social networking bad for business”? After examining his page, it was obvious why he was experiencing problems. A professional fan page or group page for a business should always remain professional and business-like. Always ask yourself the question: “How will this post benefit my clients?” Keep your posts strictly to business material and avoid commenting on the best movie you saw last night.
  4. Watch for grammar mistakes and typos. Unless you are including an SEO keyword, always proof read every post on social networking websites. Every post will reflect your writing skills and the credibility of your business.

If you do not follow these tips for creating an online profile for your business, you will soon have a better understanding of “why is social networking bad for business”. Always keep social networking pages professional, up-to-date, and unique to find success in social media.

I wish more people would listen to #1. I’d say that I end up unfollowing about 90% of people I follow simply because they are updating every 5 minutes with absolutely useless tweets..
